We're Hiring!

An interdisciplinary position for a data scientist in global health is available at Stanford Medical School, with an anticipated start date as early as May 2017. The position is suitable for 25% up to 100% time staff, depending on qualifications. The scientist will support a project studying risk factors for HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa using big data approaches (project details available here). The responsibilities and expectations include the following: (i) wrangling multi-country nationally representative survey microdata; (ii) developing and/or applying data management and analysis software; (iii) authorship of methodological and applied manuscripts to be submitted to peer reviewed publications; (iv) presenting and communicating the findings to academic and other interested audiences. Appropriate candidates should have expert data management skills, and can include PhD students in quantitative fields, recent graduates of Master's programs in fields related to data science, or candidates with relevant work experience. Fluency in a statistical or computational language such as Stata, R, or Python is expected. Salary and benefits, including conference travel and equipment funds, are highly competitive. The position is designed for 1-4 years, and could be extended based on performance. Scientists will receive dedicated mentorship, and will have the opportunity to participate in seminar series, lectures and career development programs. Interested candidates should send a CV including contact information for references, and a sample of code to Eran Bendavid (ebd@stanford.edu).
